What we keep, and why.
The short version: what you write is yours. Nobody reads it but you, except in the one case described under Safety. You can download all of it, or delete all of it, from your account page.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, and the first name, time zone and reminder hour you give us.
- Your work: what you write in the tools, your log, which days you've opened and finished, and your conversations with the guide.
- Purchases: what you bought, when, and for how much. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
- Email records: which emails we sent you and whether they were delivered, kept for six months.
- The free Father Check: nothing, unless you ask for your result by email. Then we keep your email address, your first name if you give it, and your answers, so we can send the result and the letters that follow.
Why
To run the program: to open the right day, show you your own work and your log, let the guide know what day you're on and what you've written, send the emails you've asked for, and handle payments and refunds. We don't sell your information, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the services below, which process it on our behalf.
Who processes it
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the database.
- Stripe handles payments.
- Resend sends our email.
- Anthropic provides the AI model behind the guide. When you talk to the guide, your message, the recent conversation, the day's reading and a short summary of what you've written in the program are sent to Anthropic to generate the reply. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, that content isn't used to train their models.
Who can see your work
You. The people who run The Better Father can see that you have an account, which day you're on, and whether you've bought or redeemed a code, so we can help you and keep the lights on. We don't read your tools, your log or your conversations. If you got your seat through a church, group or employer, they can't see anything you write, or whether you're doing it.
Safety: the one exception
If something you write to the guide suggests that you, your kid or someone else may be in danger, the program shows you crisis resources right away and records that one message for a person on our side to read. They may email you personally with resources, or to check in. If what you wrote suggests a child is being harmed, we may be required to report it. We keep these records only as long as we need them for safety, and they're removed if you delete your account.
Your choices
- Download everything: Account → Download everything. You get one file with all of it.
- Delete everything: Account → Delete my account. It's permanent and immediate. We keep a record of any purchase (amount, date and email) because the law requires it for accounting, without anything you wrote.
- Emails: every program email has a link to turn daily emails off, and every letter has a link to stop them. Sign-in links still come when you ask for them.
Cookies
One cookie keeps you signed in. That's it: no advertising or tracking cookies.
Adults only
The Better Father is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if you believe a minor has signed up, write to us and we'll delete the account.
Questions or requests
Reply to any email from us, and a person will answer. If we change this page in a way that matters, we'll email you before it takes effect.
